If a Deye hybrid inverter shows a fault, the fault table in the official Deye manual helps to narrow it down. This article reproduces the codes documented there and arranges them by topic. At the end you will find what information the service needs. We deliberately list only codes that Deye describes in the manual.
Scope: The information refers to the three-phase low-voltage hybrid units SUN-3K…12K-SG05LP3-EU-SM2 (User Manual V2.0.0, “Chart 7-1 Fault information”, pp. 45–48). The manual of the SUN-14K…20K-SG05LP3-EU-SM2 (V2.2.0) contains an identically worded table on pp. 45–48. For the high-voltage units (SG01HP3), the respective manual applies.
Where the Deye displays a fault
- Home screen: According to the manual (chap. 5.1, p. 31), in the event of a fault the symbol in the centre of the screen changes to “comm./F01~F64”. The fault message appears below it; details are in the “System Alarms” menu.
- Fault memory: Under “Device Info”, the inverter shows the “Fault Log” with code and time as well as the firmware versions (HMI, MAIN) (chap. 5.11, p. 44).
In the event of a fault, always note the code, time and operating state before restarting the inverter.
Safety first
Deye states in the manual that all wiring work may only be carried out by qualified personnel. Some of the checks below require DC and AC switches to be turned off. Work on DC cables, battery and grid connection belongs in the hands of authorised electricians.
Deye error codes according to the manual (Chart 7-1)
The checks are translated in substance from the English original. For almost all codes, the last step in the manual is: contact the manufacturer or service if the normal state cannot be restored.
PV, DC side and insulation
| Code | Designation according to manual | Checks according to manual |
|---|---|---|
| F01 | DC input polarity reverse fault | Check PV input polarity |
| F07 | DC_START_Failure | The BUS voltage cannot be built up from either PV or battery. Restart the inverter |
| F20 | DC over current fault of the hardware | DC overcurrent: check PV modules and battery connection. In off-grid mode, starting with a large load can trigger F20, then reduce the load. DC and AC switches off, wait 1 minute, back on |
| F21 | Tz_HV_Overcurr_fault | BUS overcurrent: check PV input current and battery current setting, restart the system 2–3 times |
| F24 | DC insulation failure | PV insulation resistance too low: check connection of PV modules to inverter, check PE connection of the inverter |
| F26 | The DC busbar is unbalanced | Wait a while. Occurs with highly unequal load on the 3 phases or with DC fault current. Restart the system 2–3 times |
| F55 | DC busbar voltage is too high | BUS voltage too high: check battery voltage and PV input voltage (permissible range) |
| F63 | ARC fault | Arc fault: check PV module wiring and clear the fault |
AC side, grid and loads
| Code | Designation according to manual | Checks according to manual |
|---|---|---|
| F13 | Working mode change | Reported when the grid type or frequency is changed, when switching the battery mode to “No battery” and, with older firmware, when changing the working mode. Usually disappears by itself. Otherwise DC and AC switches off, wait 1 minute, back on |
| F15 | AC over current fault of software | AC overcurrent: check whether backup load and normal load are within the permissible range, restart |
| F16 | AC leakage current fault | Fault current: check earthing of the PV cables, restart the system 2–3 times |
| F18 | AC over current fault of hardware | AC overcurrent: check backup load and normal load, restart |
| F22 | Tz_EmergStop_Fault | Remote shutdown: indicates that the inverter has been switched off remotely |
| F23 | Tz_GFCI_OC_ current is transient over current | Fault current: check earthing of the PV cables, restart the system 2–3 times |
| F34 | AC Overcurrent fault | Check the connected backup load, it must be within the permissible power range |
| F42 | AC line low voltage | Grid voltage fault: AC voltage within the specified range? AC grid cable connected firmly and correctly? |
| F47 | AC over frequency | Grid frequency out of range: check frequency and AC connection |
| F48 | AC lower frequency | Grid frequency out of range: check frequency and AC connection |
| F62 | DRMs0_stop | Check whether the DRM function is active |
Battery and BMS
| Code | Designation according to manual | Checks according to manual |
|---|---|---|
| F46 | Backup battery fault | Check the condition of each battery (voltage, SOC, parameters). All parameters must be identical |
| F56 | DC busbar voltage is too low | Battery voltage too low: check battery voltage, charge battery via PV or grid if necessary |
| F58 | BMS communication fault | Communication between inverter and battery BMS interrupted while “BMS_Err_Stop” is active. According to the manual, “BMS_Err_Stop” can be deactivated on the display if this shutdown is not wanted |
Parallel operation and temperature
| Code | Designation according to manual | Checks according to manual |
|---|---|---|
| F29 | Parallel CAN Bus fault | In parallel operation, check the communication cables and communication address of the inverters. Normal when starting a parallel system, disappears as soon as all units are switched on |
| F41 | Parallel system stop | Check the status of the inverters. If one unit shuts down, all units report F41 |
| F64 | Heat sink high temperature failure | Heat sink too hot: check ambient temperature, switch off the inverter for 10 minutes and restart |
Practical notes on common patterns
- F13 after changes: According to the manual, F13 is to be expected after a change of grid type, frequency or battery mode and usually disappears by itself.
- F29 when starting up a parallel system is normal according to Deye. If the fault remains when all units are running, check the parallel cables and addresses.
- F41 on all units indicates that a single unit in the parallel system has shut down. Look for the unit that failed first.
- F58 with lithium batteries: Before deactivating “BMS_Err_Stop”, check the communication cable, pin assignment and the protocol on the battery. Without BMS communication, the inverter lacks the battery’s charge limits. Notes on connecting Easyway batteries can be found in the article Combining Deye with Easyway storage.
When you should call in the service
If a code remains or recurs after the checks, contact the service. Deye recommends this too. For specialist businesses in Austria, the Involtis service supports with Deye hybrid inverters and Easyway batteries, including firmware and warranty handling:
- Technical support: +43 670 60 52 919 or +43 664 46 111 80
- Service page: involtis.com/service
To speed up troubleshooting, please have ready:
- Exact model (e.g. SUN-12K-SG05LP3-EU-SM2) and serial number
- Firmware versions from “Device Info” (HMI, MAIN)
- Photo of the fault log with code and time
- Battery type and number, settings “Batt Mode” and “Lithium Mode”
- What happened before the fault (power failure, conversion, change of settings, high load)
